Historic Map of the New Houston, on the banks of Buffalo Bayou, near the confluence of White Oak Bayou and Buffalo Bayou.

An inland seaport, protected from storms, too far south for Indian raids, land for the taking, a place where fortunes can and will be made, named for the great General Sam Houston, Hero of San Jacinto.  On the plains of San Jacinto, just 24 miles east of where downtown Houston would soon be located, General Houston and the Texas Army won Texas freedom is just 18 minutes, defeating the self-proclaimed "Napoleon of the West", General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna.  The Republic of Texas came into existence and the City of Houston was soon born.

This new city would become a beacon many who wished to start a new life.  Rising from the banks of a small brownwater stream known to the Spanish as "Buffalo Bayou", Houston would become synonymous with opportunity and self-made fortunes.  These new "Houstonians" would make their fortunes first with cotton, then oil, medicine, computers, or anything that could be imagined.  The New Houston can be seen from miles away on the flat coastal plains of the Gulf Coast.   It rises out of coastal plain where majestic buildings reach for the sky,
